about
This song was written on the back of mission trips to Uganda. The lyrics are based on some of Steve Stockman's reflections and observations of Africa, found on our trips.
All the proceeds of this song will be donated to Onialeku, to help fund the building of a new Nursery Building.
In the song, you can hear the children of Onialeku Primary School singing the chorus, kindly recorded by Peter Greer. Further, many thanks to Ronan Keegan who played electric guitar on the track.
lyrics
Africa, I am waving at you
and all you do is wave back and smile.
Roads teeming with fascination,
Red dust mile after red dust mile.
Africa, I am staring at you,
all your wildlife through the trees-
Elephants under the mangos,
the smell of your welcoming breeze.
My name is not 'Mzungo',
we may have a different skin,
but all our blood is red;
the same grace colour as Jesus bled.
I am waving at you,
I am waving at you,
I am waving at you,
Oh, Africa.
Africa, I am singing with you,
your joyful songs of being free.
'Ubuntu'- what a great refrain.
Without you, I can't be me.
My name is not 'Mzungo',
we may have a different skin,
but all our blood is red;
the same grace colour as Jesus bled.
I am waving at you,
I am waving at you,
I am waving at you,
Oh, Africa.
Africa, I am praying for you,
Praying for water, education and health
and that you don't get all of our poverty,
with justice, with peace and with wealth.
My name is not 'Mzungo',
we may have a different skin,
but all our blood is red;
the same grace colour as Jesus bled.
I am waving at you,
I am waving at you,
I am waving at you,
Oh, Africa.
